On Wednesday, January 22nd, Mrs. Pratt and some of the students from STEM presented their Sea Perch projects to the school board. The 8th-grade STEM class traveled to UNH on Thursday to run their Sea Perch Projects in the Chase Oceanic Engineering Lab pool. The SeaPerch Project was done in cooperation with UNH and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. They had a blast taking their Sea Perches underwater while other students watched through a porthole on the side of the tank. We got a tour of the lab and ate lunch at the dining hall before coming back to school.

The New Hampshire Preservation Alliance is offering career exploration opportunities for participants aged 16 - 21. No experience is needed to participate. We will try to match you with available opportunities in your area.
The program will be offered in two regions: Central New Hampshire (Canterbury, Andover, Warner, etc.) and the Seacoast (Portsmouth and vicinity). Specific locations will vary based on each participant's age, interest and abilities and may include professional workplaces and historic sites such as Canterbury Shaker Village and Strawbery Banke Museum.
Benefits include exposure to a range of historic preservation activities which may include traditional construction techniques, repair of damaged building elements, wood window restoration, and the history of the buildings being worked on. Activities will depend on each intern’s skill set and the projects available at the time.
The ideal candidate for this internship will have an interest in old buildings (or objects) and their construction and repair. They will be able to follow basic instructions and safety protocols. We value any prior experience in making, crafting, repairing, building, designing, engineering, living in or thinking about old buildings, visiting historic sites, awareness of energy conservation and the environment, art/architecture, and working with your hands. No experience is necessary if you bring an open mind.
Students interested in this opportunity need to see Mr. Goodwin in Room 11 or email al.goodwin@sau64.org
